Seeing people assist animals always makes us happy. It’s an incredibly selfless job because animals typically don’t express gratitude for kindness.
However, there are instances where animals have a charming way of saying “thank you” to those who save them. For example, one kangaroo shook hands with the guys who saved him.
David Boyd, a man from Canberra, reportedly witnessed a kangaroo in Lake Burley Griffin, according to Daily Mail Australia. The animal was apparently unable to escape the frigid water.
However, two courageous onlookers ventured into the frigid waters to assist the roo to safety.
In order to avoid frightening the kangaroo, the men approach slowly. The kangaroo begins to thrash its arms as they approach and attempt to catch it to pull it to safety.
The men manage to grab hold of the animal and guide it out of the water, nevertheless, unfazed.
The kangaroo is afraid and shivering, but a third man helps pull it onto dry land and calms it down.
Despite their friendly appearance, kangaroos can be aggressive if they sense danger. Their defense mechanisms include a powerful kick that can disembowel a man, pointed claws, and a punch that is comparable to a boxer’s.
Fortunately, it appeared that the kangaroo recognized the men’s intentions to be helpful, and in a touching moment, he even extended his paw as though to shake hands.
“Aw, he’s thanking you,” the man filming the rescue is heard saying.
The kangaroo was in “shock,” according to Daily Mail Australia, and required 30 minutes to get comfortable.
However, witnesses told the Courier Mail that the kangaroo ultimately hopped on its way, appearing unhurt by the experience.
I’m grateful to these guys for rescuing this kangaroo! After saving the day, you most certainly earned that “handshake.”
