Ariel Araujo and his roommate Edwin were having a few beers at a little pub downstairs from their Brazilian condo the other day when they noticed a face they knew.
There was a cat the two knew well, ambling through the courtyard outside.
“I asked Edwin, ‘Isn’t that your cat, Kush?’” Araujo told The Dodo. “Edwin said, ‘Yes, I know my cat.’”
Edwin and Araujo surmised that Kush had managed to slip away and become disoriented. Edwin decided to take the cat with him when he returned home. However, there was only one issue.
In reality, it wasn’t Kush.
Araujo was the first to enter their residence through the front entrance. The real Kush emerged in the corridor just as he was about to head to his bedroom.
Then Edwin entered while carrying the cat he had discovered.
“I laughed a lot and said, ‘Look, Edwin! Kush is here!” Araujo said. “He said, ‘Stop lying.’ Then he saw Kush. He was so perplexed and started laughing.”
The fake did not exactly excite the genuine Kush and his white kitty companion:
Edwin took one glance at his honest error and brought the lookalike cat back downstairs. It is thought that he shares an apartment building with some of his neighbors, who let their cats roam outside during the day.
“He was well looked after and chubby,” Araujo said. “This is a gated community, so he certainly belongs to someone here.”
The real Kush, meanwhile, remains exactly where he’s meant to be.
Luckily, the confusion was cleared up right away. Even though Kush and the other cat have striking similarities, Edwin will always cherish Kush in his heart.
“I can’t live without my cat,” Edwin told The Dodo. “Both of them are actually one of the best things that ever happened in my life.”
